Stratford-Upon-Avon Opening

The Chip Shed Arrives in Stratford-upon-Avon: Proper Fish & Chips in the Heart of Shakespeare Country

We’re thrilled to announce that The Chip Shed has officially opened its doors in Stratford-upon-Avon — and we couldn’t be prouder to become part of such an iconic and vibrant town.

Nestled in the heart of Warwickshire, Stratford is famed around the world as the birthplace of William Shakespeare, but it’s also a town with a bustling cultural scene, riverside charm, and now... truly excellent fish and chips.

Whether you're a local, a day tripper, or here for a theatre weekend, we’re here to serve you proper British food, done properly — fresh, hand-prepared, and cooked to order.

A Warm Welcome to Our New Neighbourhood

Stratford-upon-Avon is more than just a tourist hotspot — it's a thriving community, rich in history and full of character. Opening a Chip Shed here is a true milestone for us as a business. We started with humble beginnings in Warwick and have grown slowly and proudly, always focusing on what we do best: top-quality fish and chips.

To now have a home in Stratford-upon-Avon — among so many brilliant local independents and just a short stroll from some of Britain’s most treasured landmarks — is both an honour and a dream.

Surrounded by the Best of Stratford

Our new location puts us right in the thick of things — and there’s no shortage of things to do before or after your visit to The Chip Shed:

  • 🎭 The Royal Shakespeare Theatre – Just minutes away, this world-renowned venue offers unforgettable performances and tours all year round.

  • 🏰 Shakespeare’s Birthplace – Step into the house where the Bard was born and raised.

  • 🌳 The Bancroft Gardens & River Avon – A perfect place for a riverside stroll or a relaxing picnic.

  • 🏡 Anne Hathaway’s Cottage & Gardens – Explore the stunning thatched farmhouse where Shakespeare courted his future wife.

  • 🛍️ Stratford’s independent shops and markets – The town centre is full of quirky boutiques, artisan stalls, and friendly cafés.

  • 🚤 Stratford River Cruises – Enjoy a scenic trip along the Avon right from the town centre.

With so much going on, you’ll need something tasty to keep you fuelled — and that’s where we come in.

What Makes The Chip Shed Different?

We’re not here to reinvent the wheel. We’re here to do fish and chips exceptionally well — that’s it.

  • Top quality ingredients

  • Responsibly sourced fish

  • Golden hand-cut chips

  • Cooked fresh to order — every time

  • A friendly, relaxed setting to enjoy your meal

We serve up all the classics — cod, haddock, pies, sausages, and burgers — along with sides like mushy peas, curry sauce, and homemade tartare. You’ll also find veggie options, kids’ meals, and a selection of drinks (including a cracking milkshake or two).

And whether you want to dine in, grab a takeaway, or order online, we’re ready to serve you with a smile.

Built by Locals, For Locals (and Visitors Too!)

At The Chip Shed, we’re an independent business run by people who care deeply about what they do. We’ve built a team in Stratford who are passionate about great service, great food, and making you feel welcome.

Being able to open in a place with such cultural and historical significance is something we don’t take lightly. We’ve made sure the new restaurant feels like part of the town — warm, welcoming, and full of character — with a space upstairs for private events and group bookings.

Whether it’s a post-theatre bite, a riverside picnic, or a family lunch after exploring the town, we’d love to feed you.
