National Fish and Chip Day

National Fish and Chip Day - every day is fish and chip day at The Chip Shed

Celebrating a British Classic with The Chip Shed

There are few dishes more iconic than fish and chips. Crispy, golden batter. Hand-cut chips. A sprinkle of salt, a dash of vinegar — maybe even a dollop of mushy peas or curry sauce. For generations, it’s been Britain’s go-to comfort food, and today we celebrate it in full on National Fish and Chip Day.

At The Chip Shed, we live and breathe this beloved tradition — and we’re proud to serve proper fish and chips across Warwick, Bourton-on-the-Water, Cheltenham and Stratford-upon-Avon.

Whether you're a local regular or a first-time visitor, we promise: we never take your custom for granted.

A Quick Dive into the History of Fish and Chips

While both fish and fried potatoes were enjoyed separately across Europe for centuries, the marriage of the two into one delicious dish is credited to the UK.

Fish and chips took off in the mid-19th century, with fried fish introduced by Jewish immigrants in London’s East End, and chips popularised in Lancashire and Yorkshire. By the 1860s, the first chippies were up and running, serving piping-hot parcels wrapped in newspaper — the very start of a love affair that’s still going strong today.

By World War II, fish and chips were so vital to British morale they were never rationed. They’ve remained a working-class staple, a seaside treat, a Friday night ritual, and now, a proudly celebrated part of British culinary heritage.

Fish and Chips Done Properly – The Chip Shed Way

At The Chip Shed, we’re not trying to reinvent the wheel. We’re simply focused on doing things really, really well.

  • 🐟 Fresh, responsibly sourced fish

  • 🍟 Chips hand-cut from British potatoes

  • 🧂 Cooked to order, not sitting under heat lamps

  • Consistent quality, friendly service, and proper portions

We’ve built our reputation on great food and great service — whether you’re grabbing a takeaway in Bourton-on-the-Water, booking a family dinner in Cheltenham, catching a matinee and munching in Stratford-upon-Avon, or popping in after work in Warwick.

And we do all of this while staying true to the roots of what makes fish and chips so loved.
